About NIT Silchar
National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar / NITS), established in 1967 as Regional Engineering College and upgraded to NIT status in 2002, is an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act 2007. Located approximately 12 km from Silchar city, in the Barak Valley of Assam, near the India-Bangladesh-Myanmar border tri-junction. The 625-acre fully residential campus — one of the largest NIT campuses in India — provides excellent facilities across academic, sports, and cultural dimensions. Approved by AICTE and recognised by UGC.
