Eligibility Criteria to Participate in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling
Not every candidate needs to perform every step. Depending on what happened in Round 1, candidates belong to one of four clear groups for MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling:
- Group 1 (Registered Candidates with No Allotment): Candidates who registered and submitted choices in Round 1 but did not get any seat. These candidates do not need to register again or pay fees. They directly proceed to fresh choice filling.
- Group 2 (Candidates Who Used Free Exit): Candidates who received a seat in Round 1 but chose not to join (free exit). These candidates do not need to pay fees again. They can log in and submit fresh choices for MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling.
- Group 3 (Joined Candidates Opting for Upgradation): Candidates who joined their Round 1 college, submitted original documents, paid college fees, and selected willingness for seat upgradation during admission. They retain their Round 1 seat while participating in Round 2 choice filling.
- Group 4 (Fresh Candidates): Medical graduates qualified in NEET PG 2026 who did not register during Round 1. They must complete fresh registration and pay the required counselling fee and security deposit.
Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 and joined the college but resigned after the official resignation cutoff are not eligible for Round 2 without forfeiting their security deposit.
Registration Fee and Refundable Security Deposit in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling
The fee structure on the MCC portal consists of two different amounts: a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable security deposit. The required amount depends on whether you choose government institutions, central universities, or private deemed universities.
Here is how payment requirements apply in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling:
- Existing Registered Candidates: Candidates who already paid their counselling fee in Round 1 do not pay anything extra for MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling. However, if a candidate chose only Government seats in Round 1 and now wants to add Deemed Universities in Round 2, they must pay the difference in fees online.
- Fresh Registrations (Dr. Ananya – Government Seats): Dr. Ananya is registering fresh in Round 2 for AIQ government and DNB seats. She pays a non-refundable registration fee of ₹1,000 and a refundable security deposit of ₹25,000. Her total online payment is ₹26,000.
- Fresh Registrations (Dr. Vikram – Deemed Universities): Dr. Vikram wants to apply for Deemed Universities. In MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling, he pays a non-refundable fee of ₹5,000 and a refundable security deposit of ₹2,00,000 (₹2 Lakh). His total online payment is ₹2,05,000.
| Institutions Selected | Candidate Category | Non-Refundable Fee | Refundable Security Deposit | Total Amount Payable Online |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50% AIQ / Central Universities / AFMS / DNB | General / EWS | ₹1,000 | ₹25,000 | ₹26,000 |
| 50% AIQ / Central Universities / AFMS / DNB | SC / ST / OBC / PwBD | ₹500 | ₹10,000 | ₹10,500 |
| Deemed Universities (Including Govt and Deemed choices) | All Categories (UR / OBC / EWS / SC / ST / PwBD) | ₹5,000 | ₹2,00,000 | ₹2,05,000 |
Crucial Advisory on Bank Accounts: Pay all registration fees and security deposits for MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling using your own personal bank account, debit card, or credit card. Never use an internet cafe card or an agent’s account. Refundable security deposits are sent back strictly to the exact bank card or account that made the initial payment. If an agent’s account was used, tracking and recovering your refund becomes complicated.
Clear Vacancies vs Virtual Vacancies in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling
When the seat matrix is published on November 6, candidates will see two types of vacancies on the portal. Understanding this distinction is vital for filling preferences in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling:
1. Clear Vacancies: These are seats that are genuinely empty. They include seats that were never allotted in Round 1, seats where candidates chose free exit, or seats newly added by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Any candidate who meets the cutoff can be directly allotted a clear vacancy.
2. Virtual Vacancies: These are seats currently occupied by candidates who joined their college in Round 1 and submitted willingness for seat upgradation. These seats are not empty right now. However, if the current seat holder gets upgraded to a higher choice in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling, their earlier seat becomes empty and can immediately be allotted to another candidate in the same round. If the candidate does not get upgraded, the virtual vacancy does not open up.
Candidates should always include both clear vacancies and attractive virtual vacancies in their preference list during MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling.
Critical Counselling Rules in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling: Free Exit vs Forfeiture
The rules in Round 2 are very different from Round 1. In Round 1, candidates enjoyed a free exit without financial penalty. In MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling, failure to understand the rules can cause you to lose your security deposit.
Here are the four key scenarios every candidate must understand:
Scenario 1 – Upgradation is Successful: If you joined your Round 1 college and get upgraded to a better choice in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling, your Round 1 seat is cancelled automatically. You cannot go back to your Round 1 seat. You must collect your original documents and fee refund from your Round 1 college and report to your new Round 2 college between November 16 and November 23, 2026.
Scenario 2 – Upgradation is Unsuccessful: If you opted for upgradation but do not get a higher choice in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling, you safely retain your Round 1 seat. You do not lose anything.
Scenario 3 – Allotted a Seat in Round 2 and Do NOT Join (Security Deposit Forfeited): Round 2 does not offer a free exit. If you are allotted a fresh seat or an upgraded seat in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling and you decide not to join, your refundable security deposit will be forfeited. You can still participate in Round 3, but you will have to register fresh and pay the security deposit again.
Scenario 4 – Joining Round 2 Seat and Seeking Upgrade to Round 3: If you join your allotted Round 2 seat, you can submit willingness for seat upgradation in Round 3. If you get upgraded in Round 3, your Round 2 seat is cancelled. If not, your Round 2 seat remains intact.
Step-by-Step Choice Filling for MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling
A common mistake among candidates is assuming that choices filled during Round 1 carry over to Round 2. They do not. MCC wipes out all Round 1 preferences. Fresh choice filling is compulsory for all participating candidates in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling.
Follow these five simple steps to complete your choice filling on mcc.nic.in:
- Step 1 – Portal Login: Visit the official portal mcc.nic.in and select “PG Medical Counselling”. Enter your NEET PG roll number, password, and security pin to access your dashboard.
- Step 2 – Review Seat Matrix: Download the official Round 2 seat matrix published on November 6. Check available seats across your desired branches such as MD General Medicine, MS General Surgery, MD Radiodiagnosis, or MD Paediatrics.
- Step 3 – Add and Re-Order Choices: Open the choice filling screen. Add medical colleges and branches in strict order of preference. Place the colleges you desire most at the top. You can add an unlimited number of choices in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling.
- Step 4 – Upgradation Hierarchy Check: If you already hold a Round 1 seat, only fill choices that are strictly better than your current college. Never fill an inferior choice, because if you get upgraded in MCC NEET PG 2026 Round 2 Counselling, you cannot return to your earlier seat.
- Step 5 – Lock and Print Preferences: Lock your saved preferences between 4:00 PM on November 11 and 10:00 AM on November 12. Download and print the locked choices confirmation slip for your admission records.
